Tabfinder Ultimate Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 14, 2026

1. Purpose

  1. Tabfinder Ultimate is a Chrome browser extension that helps users search, switch between, and reopen browser tabs.
  2. Browser tab and window information is used only to provide the extension's user-facing tab search, tab switching, recently closed tabs, and settings features.

2. Data Accessed

  1. Tab title and tab URL.
  2. Favicon URL, tab group information, and window ID.
  3. Incognito window state, pinned tab state, and audible/audio-playing state.
  4. Recently accessed tab order and recently closed tab information.

3. Data Stored and Retention

  1. Open tab metadata, recently closed tab metadata, and recent tab activation order are stored in chrome.storage.session.
  2. User settings are stored in chrome.storage.sync.
  3. Theme preference is stored in extension local storage.
  4. Recently closed tab data is limited to a maximum of 25 tabs.
  5. Chrome clears chrome.storage.session when the browser restarts, or when the extension is reloaded, updated, or disabled.
  6. Data in chrome.storage.sync remains until the user changes it, clears extension data, disables Chrome Sync for the data, or removes the extension.

4. Sharing, Tracking, and Remote Code

  1. Tabfinder Ultimate does not sell, rent, share, or transfer user data to the developer or to third parties.
  2. The extension does not use analytics, advertising trackers, telemetry, or remote logging.
  3. The extension does not load or execute remotely hosted code.
  4. All extension code is packaged with the extension.

5. Permissions

  1. tabs: used to read tab titles, URLs, favicons, tab state, and switch between tabs.
  2. storage: used to save extension settings and temporary tab state.
  3. sessions: used to show recently closed tabs and restore the user-selected tab with its original browser session state and navigation history.
  4. tabGroups: used to display tab group titles and colors.
  5. favicon (Chromium browsers only): used to retrieve each tab's site icon from the browser's local favicon cache via the browser's internal favicon API (chrome-extension://<id>/_favicon). This does not make a network request to the website itself; the icon is read from data the browser has already cached locally. Icons are stored as base64 image data in chrome.storage.session for use in the popup, and are cleared on browser restart or extension reload, consistent with other session data. Not requested on Firefox or Safari, as it is a Chromium-only API.

6. External Sites

  1. Tabfinder Ultimate may open external websites only after a user action.
  2. Web search queries are opened directly with the selected search engine.
  3. Donation links and author links open the corresponding external website.
  4. External websites are governed by their own privacy policies.

7. Limited Use and Contact

  1. The use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
  2. Tabfinder Ultimate uses browser data only to provide user-facing extension features.
